Kemper Auto and Home, Jacksonville Employees Donate Almost $7,000 in Supplies to Hurricane Relief.
Among the pallets of supplies KAH purchased, 6,720 bottles of water and thousands more bottles of Gatorade were sent to Mississippi on Thursday.
Within just a few hours, employees in our Jacksonville office pulled together approximately $1,800 in donations – in addition to $5,000 donated by the company – for firefighters and hurricane victims located in Mississippi. The effort was in response to the needs of a group of 100 firefighters from the Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Departments who headed to Pascagoula, MS this week and had handed out all available supplies, requiring additional provisions from Jacksonville.
Several companies pitched in, including Kemper Auto and Home, to fill four semi trucks that headed west from Jacksonville Fire/Rescue’s Tactical Support Facility on Thursday morning.
Thanks to the last-minute effort by Kevin Dooley and several other Jacksonville employees, the donations were collected and delivered within a few hours, allowing Jacksonville Fire/Rescue to gather eight large pallets of supplies from Costco (which also donated an additional $200) and deliver them to the facility to begin the long journey into hurricane-devastated territory.
KAH Employee Kevin Dooley, along with Jacksonville Fire/Rescue’s Chris Philips and Costco associates Matthew Larrow and Roger Burgholzer all pitched in to load up supplies headed for Mississippi.
Engineer Chris Philips of the Jacksonville Fire/Rescue simply stated, “This is really amazing,” referring to Kemper Auto and Home's donations to relieve those who are stranded and hungry as a result of Monday's hurricane that ripped through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
With KAH's donations, they were able to get water, Gatorade, apple sauce, trail bars, canned foods, as well as socks, hygiene items, diapers and other much needed supplies.
“The effort on behalf of our employees is a shining example of this company's heart,” said KAH President Thom McDaniel. “I have no doubt that if the donation window was bigger, KAH employees nationwide would have responded in a big way.”
The supplies should reach the firefighters and others who desperately need it by the weekend.
