Safety in a Lightning Storm

Preparation before the storm
As with most weather-related events, track the storm via local weather information or through severe weather alerts
Be prepared to react to any oncoming weather event
If there are reports of lightning, especially if strong or severe, accompanying approaching storms, where possible you should find shelter for yourself, family and friends

During the storm
As always, be safe
If the weather appears to be severe enough when driving, where possible, get coverage under an overpass or seek other shelter
If lightning is present, stay away from metal objects or large structures like tall trees
Listen to weather reports and track the storm
Stay inside until all signs of severe weather have passed

After the storm
Report any damage caused by lightning or the storm in general
Clean up any glass or other debris from the storm to prevent injury and/or further damage
